Australian singer-songwriter Blake Rose came through Seattle’s Showbox SoDo last Tuesday, opening for girlinred’s rescheduled tour date.
With music to move your body, Rose joins a lovely list of artists like COIN or MUNA, who push past typical cookie-cutter pop sounds to create something more substantial. His songs “Lost” and “Best of Me” contain lyrics that match the rawness of his stage presence: up there it’s just Blake, a couple of guitars and a drummer.
At the start of the evening, Rose set out two rules for concertgoers (1) if you see someone dancing, dance with them (2) if you see someone you think is cute, go up and ask for their number. As folks let out “aws” and confused gasps – Rose let the crowd in on the scheme, “I’m hoping to have a proposal at one of my shows in a couple years, who knows? Maybe they’ll meet here too!” Armed with his playful personality and charisma for live performances, I can already anticipate Rose returning to the US for some headlining shows next year. Be sure to check out Blake Rose’s music and keep an eye out for tour dates… you never know who you might be there!
Take care,
E
