Want to write for us? We’re always looking for contributors to join the team! SSP is open to writers of all experience levels. Just bring your love for music & your creative writing skills. Our goal as a site is to be unapologetically excited about all the music we love, and to infuse that energy into our writing. If that sounds like your scene, we’d like to hear from you!

How to apply

We’re pretty easy going, and we also hate the anxiety that comes with applying for things, so we keep it simple. Just email hello@softsoundpress.com with the subject line “Contributor Application” and the followings things:

  • A couple of your fave bands
  • The last show you went to
  • A sample of your music writing
    • If you’re published somewhere, links work!
    • If you’re a pre-published writer, send us a blurb about your fave release from this year, the album that made you love music, a new artist you discovered… anything!

Questions you may have

Is it paid?

Not right now, but we’re currently working on it! We don’t make money off of SSP (actually, we lose money due to costs for hosting, domains, transcriptions… lmao). We do all of it for the love of the bands. But we don’t want it to be that way forever. I mean, we’ll still do it for the love of the bands, but we also like paying creatives for their work. Keep an eye on this space.

How often would I be expected to submit something?

As an SSP contributor, you’d be expected to submit something at least once a month. Between your own ideas and all of the incredible music coming through our inbox, it’s not hard to find something that sparks your interest most days!

What would you want me to write?

Things like track/album reviews, artist spotlights, and listicles are always welcome! But we’re also always open to new ideas, so feel free to pitch us on whatever interests you. Do you enjoy curating playlists or know a lot (like, a LOT) about a specific artist? Let’s figure out something cool.

What if I have another role i’d like to take on with the site?

Maybe you’re looking for a role as an editor, or a social media coordinator, or a publicist… or something else entirely. Let’s chat! We’re always open to ideas for expanding our team.

What are you waiting for? Send us an email!
